Michael Duncan creates abstract sculpture and painting inspired by the hidden structures of life, exploring movement, vitality, connection, and the body’s internal architecture.
“My work explores vitality, structure, movement, and the hidden architecture of life through abstract sculpture and painting. I am inspired by the systems that sustain human existence—skeletal frameworks, cellular structures, connective forms, and the unseen energies that bind living things together.
Through layered abstraction, organic motion, texture, and evolving relationships between line, color, and form, I create work that balances tension and vulnerability with endurance and transformation. Wood, repetition, fragmentation, and spatial relationships become ways of examining how living systems support, protect, and reshape us over time.
Rather than presenting literal representation, I use abstraction to create space for interpretation and emotional response. My work reflects the interconnected nature of the body, memory, community, and healing, inviting viewers to experience the work as simultaneously biological, architectural, and emotional.”
